NEW VIDEO: Pharrell - Marilyn Monroe

No-one does retro-disco like Pharrell.

I love how all over the place Marilyn Monroe is. The lyrics, artfully simple; the production, gorgeously compelling. And the visuals definitely reflect this. It's energetic, it's playful, it's risqué, it is not to be taken seriously... This video, like most of his others, is Pharrell and so I refuse to fault it. Director, Luis Cervero's patriotic use of colour allows Pharrell to show off his fashion prowess - not to mention his growing mountain hat collection, with about as many very non-Marilyn Monroe-esque girls as the number of times he actually says the word "girl" flanking him in each scene.

The visuals appear to be a cross between the Happy and Blurred Lines video, featuring lots of dance sequences  and off-set antics - just not quite as child-appropriate. Whether Marilyn Monroe will receive the same "it's playfully raunchy... no, I take that back, it's just plain sexist" reaction as Blurred Lines however, is yet to be seen. I highly doubt it though. Where Robin Thicke earned himself the title, Sexist of the Year by casually promoting rape, Pharrell's heart appears to be in the right place with his well-meaning G I R L album.

Check out Marilyn Monroe below and let me know what you think.
